This was an intriguing, quick read that captures your attention from the first page. The author writes with authority and paints a picture with his words that puts you 'right there' with the characters. Its a short story, so I don't want to give too much away, but I found myself craving more! I wanted to know more about the village, these characters, and the back story which led to the hike up to the Pinnacle. It would be so interesting to read a prequel to this story. This is a great story that is well worth your time.

I've really enjoyed Gaines flash fiction work at his web site, [...] and it is great to see him publishing a longer story.

Gains gives his characters depth in a surprisingly short amount of time, and you form a real emotional attachment to the character and their plight. In the Pinnacle he builds the suspense over the story, so that only at the end you realise the full impact of what is happening.

Excellent work and I hope that he releases more, and longer, works as well!

I enjoyed this short, fantasy story about a dangerous child who must be 'taken care of'. I don't want to give too much away, so I won't. It is well written and did leave me wanting to read more in this story world.
Interesting read with a twist at the end... very short but it hints at a bigger world. I would like to see more but even if there isn't a larger story in the work, it is a good short story.
