Devil Kiss A Devil Kiss Novel Sarwat Chadda Books
"Killing him should be easy; He's only six." An opening line like that is all this book needed to grab me! As I was reading it, I was just praying it would become a series! I don't know much about the Knights Templar beyond what Dan Brown wrote about, but I have always been intrigued by their history, and in particular, their mysterious nature throughout history. When I picked up Devil's Kiss, by Sarwat Chadda, I wasn't prepared for such an interesting book and description of the Knights Templar!Billi's Father is the master of the Knights Templar, while her mother, a Pakistani Muslim, was killed by one the very monsters Billi, her father, and the other Knights fight against each and every day. Billi is being trained as a Templar, much to the irritation of the older, more cantankerous of the Order. Despite the training, all Billi really cares about is having a normal life. She wants to be able to do her homework at night without having to assist in slayings and Ghul, Were, or Grigori attacks. She wants to meet boys and have a real relationship. Most of all, she wants her friend, Kay, another Templar in training, to return from Jerusalem where he is learning to hone his psychic abilities.
When Kay returns, though, his powers get him in trouble. He underestimates his abilities and almost allows a group of angry fallen angels (Grigori) escape hell. They were able to close the portal, but not before the Grigori are able to call for their one free brother- The Angel of Death. The Knights are preparing for a fight, but Billi just wants to spend time with the mysterious new guy she just met- Michael. What Billi doesn't know is that her unconventional and sometimes terrifying life is about to get a whole lot scarier.
Packed with history and mystical fiction, this book is really a page-turner. I read it in one sitting and was sad to see it end. The characters are deep and complex while the story is tinted with dark creatures, religion, and a modern girl who just wants to listen to her iPod and enjoy being a teenager. I love how Chadda is able to combine an ancient mysterious order with the life of an average present-day teenager. This is a great book for both guys and girls, with enough action to keep anyone interested. It isn't too gory, but there are some harsh parts with the creepy Ghuls. If you have a student who is a little bit darker than Harry Potter or Twilight, but still likes the magical, mystical type of book, this one is sure to be a screaming success! Now I am just going to keep my fingers crossed that Chadda decides to continue Billi's story!

Devil Kiss A Devil Kiss Novel Sarwat Chadda Books Reviews
Killing him should be easy; He's only six."
I know right! One heck of an opener!! That sentence had me hooked. I finished it in two days. SO...Billi falls for Michael...OK first problem. There was no love story there! He met her...had a date...she's in love?? How? Ok Second problem now! There is Kay! (I love Kay!!! (So does Billi.)) There needed to be way more to that relationship as well. There was nothing to make me think she actually loved these guys and there should have been!!! It ties into the plot! I expected ALOT more from this book. I read the summary and was "OH MY! I HAVE to read this!" Little did I know I was set up for disappointment when it came to the love story. Now onto better aspects of the book!! I really loved the relationship between Billi and her dad. There was hard feelings between them. I don't want to say hatred because she didn't hate him, she just didn't like him. Like most teenagers lol. The plot in this story was really good. I loved and hated the ending at the same time! I hated it for one obvious reason but, loved it because of the same. My heart went completely out to her at that point but I was also like "Nooooooo!!!! That can't be right!!!!" But it was ( Any Hoo... All in all a good read. I loved it besides the lack of the love story.

I love books that are filled with action!! A little romance stuck in the middle is great (Duh, I'm a girl) But the epic fighting scene are what keep me reading. Give me grade A crises situations, give me kung-fu and flying daggers, give me a 15 year old girl with an attitude and a fondness for shiny swords, and I am 1 very happy girl.
I have read an ungodly amount of literature focused on demons and the undead, but I had never (until now of course) read anything that focused on the Knights Templar, which is exactly what "Devil's Kiss" was about.
I am happy to say that I LOVED IT.
It is, without a doubt the best "action" book I have read since the "Mortal Instruments" series, and I could not put it down (trust me...I tried... It just wasn't happening)
Meet Billi, our heroine, at the age of 10 she was thrown head first into a life of unimaginable evil. Her father, (who is a completely psychotic work-a-holic,) is the leader of the sword wielding, demon catching, prophecy smashing Knights Templar, who for a lack of an easier explanation, is an all boys club formed under the church to destroy the evil us mere humans are unable to see right in front of us. (demons, vampires, ghouls... you get the point) Billi, being the only girl is not only compared to the men, but expected to be better than them. The only problem, or course, comes when Billi would rather live her life as a normal girl than the bad ass with a sword her elders expect her to be. So... she does what every other teenager does...she doesn't listen. She fights with Kay (her boy ... friend) who just happens to be an Oracle. She ditches her responsibilities to meet a cute boy for tea, and in the end...has to suck it up and save the world.
"Chadda's" writing was superb, there was not a single moment when I was subconsciously rambling to "Get to the point." His plot was well thought out, his facts were accurate, and his ability to take one piece of Templar history and form an entire story around it was...to say the least... impressive.
There were overgrown boys who always seemed to be eating, ghouls who looked like supermodels, lessons in subway safety, lots of flying silverware, a fight scene that will leave you appreciating the fact that you are on solid ground, and 1 very chilling moment of truth including 1 of the aforementioned boys and a sword handcrafted by the devil himself.
"Chadda's" next book (the follow-up to "Devil's Kiss) isn't scheduled to be released until sometime in 2010, but it is pretty safe to assume, I will snatch it up the second I see it.
Happy reading my fellow Templar's and remember, prophesies and perceptions are in the eye of the beholder, maybe you should look at your problems from all angles, not just the right one.
